Just wondering how closed in the salt mines are? I have some claustrophia so wondering how one with claustrophia would do venturing into any of the salt mines.
I have been to the salt mine near Krakow, Poland and didn't have a problem except on the way out. The elevator out was so small and with all the people jammed into it, I almost had a panic attack. Thankfully, it was a quick ride to the top, so I survived. How do you ascend and descend to the salt mines?

The one we went to above Salzburg near Bertchesgaden (sp?) was not closed in at all. There was a little train and then fairly wide corridors to walk through. Parts of it were really beautiful, I'd recommend it. And there was no elevator!
Best,
Lisa
Thanks Lisa, I was wanting to see this based on the reviews so glad to hear no elevators
I was just like you at the mine near Krakow--the mine itself was so airy and well-lit, but that dark elevator ride up was awful (luckily it was quick). I was fine in the underground cities of Turkey, but I could not venture into a catacomb in Malta. The structure being open and airy is key.
