Berlin has lots to do and all KINDS of "nightlife." how decadent do you want to get?
That is a tough one, but I would advise you to go to Barcelona over Amsterdam. Both are great cities, but if you've already been to the former, the latter is definitely worth a visit.
As for Munich vs. Berlin, they are very different, so it depends what you are interested in. Munich is a bit prettier, and has a more traditional feel. It is also smaller and more walkable. Berlin is much more modern in terms of architecture, and it is HUGE. It has great museums, too.
Thanks for your responses. I really appreciate it. We are planning on definetly going to Prague and Dubrovnik on this trip but we are now trying to throw in 2 or more places thats why we were thinking barcelona or amsterdam and munich or berlin. We want to really experience fun culture, good food and nice people just an overall nice fun experience you know. Does Berlin have alot character or does Munich have more character?
Do you know of any other places that are similar to Amsterdam that you have been to? I just loved it there.
I don't know how similar it is to Amsterdam (love it!)but what about Budapest, as long as you are sort of in that neighborhood? But Barcelona is a great city, many things to do - the beach, Gaudi, the old city, great food! If you've not been there, I vote for Barcelona.
Bruges is similar to Amsterdam ,although much smaller and crowded to the max.
If you love Amst. go there...I love Barcelona and visit over and over. Barcelona has character to spare, fantastic food and wine ,the beaches .and unique architecture.
Berlin is modern, big , has more of a vibe than
Munich IMO, great museums and galleries.
Munich might have more 'German character" .
I like Berlin better ...have been four times.
Thanks suec1. I was also looking up videos of budapest keep hearing great things about it. Have you been? What is it like? I think were goign to have to strongly thing of doing barcelona as i am hearing great things about it.
I was in Budapest several years ago for less than a week - I hope to return! At one time Budapest was becoming the new Paris - lots of grand, art deco buildings but the communist era brought that to a halt and things became a bit shabby. But alot of revamp is going on, there is a vibrant cafe culture, the old Buda part of the city up on the hill, the Danube, the big central market and the baths located thruout the city - lots to see and do! You can still feel some lingering influences from the communist era (the people speak less english and can be a bit glum) but that also makes it different / interesting than other European cities IMO.
Thanks so much to everyone. I am possibly leaning towards flying into Amsterdam or Barcelona then night train to Munich and then heading over to cesky krumlov and then prague and then flying to our final destination which is dubrovnik and flying home. Still exploring if we should do Berlin or Munich but thanks again for all advice.
Hard to help you with Munich vs Berlin - It depends on what you want...

If you want a beaufiful city and typical culture go for Munich.
If you want nightlife and subculture take Berlin.
Berlin is a pretty easy train ride from Prague.
