I am looking for budget lodging in Cochem Sept. 6-8, 2013. It looks as though many places are already sold out. I am wondering if there might be a wine festival going on at that time. Does anyone know of a website I can check to see if this might be the issue? The ones I have looked at are not specific to 2013.

You didn't say what your budget is, but I found a few on this site for around $100 night (check the fine print, that might be per person).

Put in "Cochem" and your dates and about 20+ come up.
Do you need to stay exactly in Cochem and can you go nearby to, say, Beilstein?
Here is a reference to a wine festival:

Again, not knowing your budget. Here is a website for apartments. They do state a 3 day minimum on some, but it may be worth a look.

Also I have had luck with www.homelidays.co.uk, VRBO and HomeAway.
Here's a budget place we stay in several years ago. Up the hill from downtown, but easly within walking distance. Nice, clean, huge breakfast. Not too much English spoken, but we didn't have a problem and we don't speak any German.

By "budget" I would mean a maximum of $100 per night for both of us. I stayed in Weingut Rademacher in 2011 in a single room for $48 per night with a nice breakfast. Since we are traveling by train it would be good if it was not too far from the bahnhof. The Rademacher was in a great location for that and I didn't mind the short walk to the city center and river. I love Beilstein, but it works out better to stay in Cochem and use the Mosel tour boat or rent bicycles to get there. Did both on my last trip.
Look, stoogies gave you a good site that has reliable reviews and you can book for under $200 for two nights.
booking.com/cochem You can get a free breakfast and free cancellation. But make sure you have free cancellation, just in case??
This site you don't pay upfront, but at the counter of the hotel.
