Things I enjoyed in Dublin in no particular order: tour of the Trinity College campus led by a student ending with the Book of Kells, Museum of Modern Art and the National Gallery of Ireland. If you are a Joyce fan then take the train to Sandycove to visit the Martello Tower.
From Dublin you can do lots of interesting day tours. You could get to the beautiful Irish countryside with a day trip to Wicklow www.daytourswicklow.ie, you can combine your excursion lots of activities like horse riding, mountain biking or walking. The tour also includes Glenadolugh, one the oldest monastic sites in Ireland lost in a breathtaking scenery. Another option could be the Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland, this tour www.daytours.ie includes some of the most scenic attractions of the Emerald Isle like the Giant's Causeway, the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge and the Dunluce Castle. Or if you like gardens, you cannot miss the Powerscourt Gardens, day tours available from Dublin www.dublinsightseeing.ie. You could also take a day tour to Newgrange and Knowth Monuments in the Boyne Valley http://www.newgrange.com/tours.htm. You have plenty of choices! Have fun
Concentrate on the areas in and around Dublin, Avoid the tours that have you sat polishing the seat for up to 75% of the trip these include The Antrim Coast, Cliffs of Moher and Ring of Kerry type excursions. Try Howth for the Sunday Market, Take the coastal train ride to Wicklow and visit the Gaol, you could also try Bray Head in the same general direction.
