I am starting to plan a trip next fall to Kiev, where a friend who works for the State Department is stationed. It looks as though the easiest thing to do will be to get a non-stop flight from Seattle to Frankfurt, as there are many flights from Frankfurt into Kiev. Does anyone have any other thoughts about this? Thanks.
Frankfurt ?) and then Kiev

So what is your question/problem about this plan?
Have a look for direct flights to Berlin instead - you could have a few days there before heading up to Kiev and there is a direct flight with UIA once a day. I suggest Berlin as it might have a little more of interest and sightseeing for you than Frankfurt.
If you'd prefer to fly into Frankfurt then by all means do, spend a day (there are things to see and do, it's just not as "happening" as say Berlin) and fly on to Kiev. Of course, it depends if you want to visit anywhere else or just Kiev.
