Gifts for Lviv? Souvenirs from Ukraine & St Petersburg?

We leave for Ukraine (Lviv, Kiev) and St Petersburg in approx 2 weeks. Would like to bring gifts from Canada for family in Lviv. The last time my husband visited them (25 years ago), he brought suitcases full of clothes; I think times have changed, though, and that may or may not be appropriate or appreciated. So besides the usual maple syrup, what do you seasoned Ukrainian travellers recommend we bring as gifts?
Also, what special/memorable/unusual souvenirs do you bring back from Ukraine and St Petersburg?
