WEnt to Luxembourg when I was a teenager. Spent almost a month in Luxembourg City....a very charming city. A great place to realx, drive around the countryside...lots of vineyards...peaceful...
Two years ago my husband and I spent a weekend cycling and exploring the tranquil villages and castles of northern Luxembourg. It was well worth the time. If you are interested you can read our trip report at http://us.geocities.com/mathews_dalton/Lux.html
When you ask "is it worth it?", it is confusing to us who wish to provide you with some info. We are not sure what you are expecting or looking for. However, here goes. We were in the northern part of Luxembourg in late April. This is the southern part of the Ardennes forest area, and is a hikers, campers, and fisher-persons dream. We are none of those, but found the area extremely beautiful and tranquil. The area known as "petit suisse", pretty much a rain forest, is gorgeous. Esch su-sur is an impossibly built charming little town. Echternach is a wonderful place to lunch. And Vianden, with it's castle. . . well, we were glad we came. We stayed at the l'Oranianburg in Vianden and toured the castle the next day. Vianden itself is a quiet, beautiful little village. From the overlook, it looks like a movie set.
So I guess I would say if you are wanting organized tours and night life, don't go. If you enjoy natural beauty, tranquility and laid back village charm, by all means, take it in.
"Mir wölle bleiwe wat mir sin" Words to live by.
I visited the city and I liked it
I recommend to visit: Palais Grand Ducal - Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean - Musée National d'Histoire et d'Art Marché-aux-Poissons
I recommend the Kirchberg district located north-east of the center for lovers of modern architecture

If you get bored you can drop out of the south end and visit the Mosel river and its many wineries, Trier(just over the border) has Roman remains.
This new information is good for people who want to visit Luxembourg now but the OP was asking 11 years ago.
Oh for goodness sake. Fallen for it again "toscana".....
One day in Luxemborg-
Three adults. We would drive in early morning and spend the day and evening.
Recommendations please
This thread dates from 2001, why don't you start your own? One day isn't enough time for Luxembourg, there is more to see than just the city.
What's so terrible about adding to an existing thread? Makes it easier to search for info, especially since newer topics are often lost in the Fodoer's search function.
I spent a perfectly lovely afternoon in LuxCity and am glad for those hours.
Hope anyone who would like to visit, does so!
check out the tour of the casements, the single most popular site in Luxembourg City - tunnels hewn out in the cliffs for military and other nefarious reasons thru the ages.
Also in suburban Hamm you have the U S military cemetery where Gen Blood and Guts and all of George Patton lie, interred here after a post-war jeep crash I believe.
The city itself is rather blah and boring but its located on a high cliff overlooking a deep gorge thru which runs a tranquil river valley is well 'goregous' no pun intended.
Yes, I was there in the 60's. It was raining.
