Hi all,
2 families spending a week in Athens/Peloponnese in mid/late July. We want ruins, etc but also nature and some relaxing (i.e. not totally sight seeing) days as well. I know we can't hit everything, so am focusing more on the south-east and eastern parts of Pelopponese. My idea:
2 days Athens,
1 day driving to Delphi and then down to Nafplio,
2 days in Nafplio (would like sights outside of Nafplio as well)
drive to Monemvasia with stop in Sparta/Mystra
2 days in Monemvasia with one of those days driving the Mani Peninsula
last day drive back to Athens for flight out, stopping in Corinth
OR is there a central place in Pelopponese that would make it easy to have one home base for 5 days or so, with day trips to Nafplio, Monemvasia, etc?
Thanks for any help!
Home Base in Peloponnese?

If you take a look at the map of the Peloponnese, you will see that the most central place is Tripolis... which is not an inviting place to use it as a home location though....

( it is a city located on a plateau with an altitude of 700 meters)....
The Peloponnese is huge, and in my opinion you should split your time between the 2 areas that you would like to visit.
Nafplion in the North East is the perfect place to see the archaeological sites and not only that are near to the city, a second option would be to base your self in Gytheio in the South East, from which you can explore the Mani ( both the Laconian and the Messenian mani). Mystras, Monemvasia and even the mountainous villages of Taygetos and Parnon.
You mentioned that you would like to visit Corinth, i guess you mean Ancient Corinth? The modern city isn't very attractive, i would not even drive through it...
Thanks clausar. I agree - splitting time will work best. Will check out Gytheio as well! And yes, Ancient Corinth!
Appreciate your help!
