Now that I'm finally booked in Russia, I need to look for a hotel for 4 nights in mid August in Kiev -- just for me. The only Kiev Hotel thread I found here is 13 years old and never got a single response. Every time I find a hotel that seems affordable to my budget (around $100 a night), I find nothing but nightmarish reviews. And the international hotels are approximately four times that amount! So far the best I seem to have found in my budget without horrible reviews is Rus Hotel, but I'm not crazy about the location, a long hike around a big stadium (which may be under construction?) to get to the metro, and not walking distance to much else apparently.
Dnipro, Kozatsky, and Kreschatik hotels all in great location, just seem too scary -- even trying to read between the lines.
I did find a thread here about apartments, but honestly for just me and 4 nights, I don't really think I want to do that.
Any help?

Thanks, DB. When I didn't get any responses to this request (and a preveious poster didn't either) I ended up booking via "bestKievapartments". 800 UAH per night and it looks very nice on their site. I was concerned about not getting the apartment I picked out -- but they have since confirmed which actual apartment I'll be in -- kind of my second choice.
