I am looking at flying into London for 7 days for my birthday. Will that be enough time to see the city and go to Amsterdam ? I enjoy eating, shopping, seeing the scenery, listening to music and dancing. Could anyone help me in those areas , so I can put an itinerary together. Also, what part of the city should I book my hotel? What airport do I fly into , this is my first time overseas. Thanks for your help.
Is 7 days in London enough time ?

Enough time for London, yes. Enough time for London AND Amsterdam... maybe. If that is 7 days including travel time I would say no.
London is a big city. The interesting tourist sites are spread out, so there is no part of the city where you can easily reach everything. You need to decide if you want a quiet area for sleeping or a more touristy and loud area for having fun the whole night. Wherever you decide on, make certain there is a metro station close to the hotel.
Airport? That really depends on what airline you are flying on and where you are coming from. Find out what the nearest home airport is, find their website and find out what airlines fly from there to London. If you live in a small city in the US you may have to change planes somewhere, too.
I would like a hotel that is in touristy and loud area to have fun the whole night . I will be flying from Atlanta.
Check out hotels near Leicester Square, Charing Cross or SoHo...
Www.londontown.com is a good place to start looking for hotels.
As for airports, it really doesn't matter just fine the best flight for you...Gatwick and heathrow have trains/tubes into the city.
7 days is enough for both, but barely. If you do that fly into one and out of the other to save the time and cost of backtracking. I would personally stick to just London as that will give you enough time to see the sights in London and maybe do a day trip.
Enjoy!
You may be surprised to find that most cities in europe are not live 24 hours. Yes, you can find clubs to go to - but many pubs and bars close early (11pm?) and places that are open are often upscale and expensive.
For hotel recos it would help to know what your budget is.
