Lake Garda hotel or other lodging in Malcesine, Limone or Riva

We have never been to Lake Garda and would like hotel recommendations. Looking for quiet rooms, comfy beds, and great views. We will be there between 3 and 6 nights, second week in Sept and plan on spending around $150 - $300 per night.

Should we rent a car from the Milan airport or are side trips accessible by trains and buses? Any other info is welcome! Thanks
