I am a 45 year old woman in need of time alone to do some soul searching. I have a sudden very rare opportunity to run off on a trip of my own for 8 days. I'm coming from the west coast of the US. I've spent quite a bit of time in my youth in Italy, some in Paris, London, Prague, etc. Never have been to Spain or Hungary. Given the short notice I've narrowed my choices to either Budapest or Barcelona. I realize they are very different places, but was hoping others could give me their two cents about what they would do if they were in my shoes. Money is of some concern, but I hope that it won't be the deciding factor.
I have a serious interest in art, architecture, good food and beautiful landscapes to walk. Little interest in a big nightlife scene. I can't seem to make a decision. I like a bit of adventure, but I don't want to be overwhelmed in a new place. I've heard sites are very spread out in Budapest and I worry slightly about the language there, but I'm very interested in the baths. I also understand it may be less expensive there. I've heard endless good things about Barcelona, but wonder if 7 nights there would be too many and if I should plan to go elsewhere as well? What about opportunities to get out in nature there?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts you can offer!

Have you looked at hotel options? That may make the decision for you - unless you have an unlimited budget. Who knows what will be available on such short notice.
And given the choice I would do Budapest - better weather and more interesting/different.
Thanks for your reply nytraveler! Have you been to both locations? I am looking into hotels and there are certainly more options in Budapest, but sadly it looks like there will be rain there for several days of my trip...

adventura12,
Did you decide on going to Budapest or Barcelona? I am also going on a soul searching trip in March. I have already decided on going to Budapest so I'm hoping you decided on that location. Please give me some insight as to whether you found what you was looking for if you did decide on going to Budapest. Thank you.
Art, aricheture, food, places to walk
Barcelona has it all !
