London to Hampton Court to Great Fosters for tea; advice on directions

I will be staying in London and would like to visit Hampton Court Palace and then have afternoon tea at Great Fosters Hotel (address: Stroude Road, Egham, Surrey) and then head back to London. From what I understand we can take the tube from London to Hampton Court, but can we take the tube from Hampton Court to Great Fosters and then back to London?

Thank you.

I can't answer the 2nd part of your question, but to get from London to Hampton Court, you take British Rail, not the tube. Trains leave about every 30 minutes from Waterloo Station, so you need to factor that into the plan.

Yes, you need to take the overland train from Waterloo to Hampton Court. You can use pay as you go oyster, or a zone 1-6 pass as its in zone 6. what transit pass will you be using in London?

Or if you want to get 1/2 price tics you can buy a train ticket at hampton court.

You cant take the tube to Egham, but you can take the overland train as well Hampton Court - Surbiton - Weybridge - Egham takes about an hour: www.nationalrail.co.uk

oh and Egham to London Waterloo is about an hour back. there are a few direct trains or you may have to change in Staines. Again check the national rail site above.

Sorry, that may be confusing, Hampton Court to Eghan requires 2 changes:

Hampton Court to Surbiton, Surbiton to Weybridge, Weybridge to Egham.

Hope that helps!

That will be a pretty convoluted two-fer. They are not very near each other.

Train to HCP, 3 - 4 hours at the Palace, then another hour to Egtham, a cab to the hotel, tea, cab back to Egtham, train to Waterloo - you are talking at least 3 hours of train and cab time.

It's about 20-30 mins by car from Hampton Court Palace to Great Fosters. Maybe try getting a local taxi from Hampton Court (pre book a local company)

On the maps, it looks as though the hotel is served by bus 566/7 from Egham; bus 71 takes about 20 minutes from Windsor to Egham. However, services are quite limited, so a local taxi would be the most time-effective way.

I would definitely get a private taxi....the time savings will easily be worth it.
