My daughter, Sara, is a middle school teacher in a charter school in Massachusetts and is interested in global education. She created a blog which she started as part of requirements for a state department grant she received. Although focused on middle school students, it is a charming blog that she originated before traveling to Ukraine and Turkey. Other teachers in the program were assigned to Ghana, India, Brazil, Morocco, and Indonesia.
Sara is currently working for 7 weeks in Beijing as a director of a High School program in language, service, culture, and leadership and hopes to blog several days a week.
I thought some of you might be interested in seeing what some of our young and energetic teachers are working on these days. If you have school age kids or even if you are curious about global education, check out this blog. As of June 29th, it has had readers in 65 countries.
Take a look at:
http://innovationonearth.com/
From the Introduction:
“…We already know how to be good citizens of our local community: we vote in our town elections, cheer for local sports teams, and wave our nation’s flag. But, now what? How do we care for the land, plants, animals, and humans that are beyond our borders? What do these borders separate us from, anyway?
Sara, a teacher at Innovation Academy Charter School in Tyngsboro, MA, will use this site to give others a new view of their place on this planet. Through resources for teachers, students, and members of our larger community, this site hopes to inspire others to reach out beyond borders. How we can all become better global citizens? Come in and explore...”
