My husband and I are planning a trip to Prague-Vienna-Budapest this summer. We have 13 days including our travel days and are wondering how to best use our time. While in Vienna we want to take a day trip to Bratslava too. Please advise as to how to best spend these days and what are MUSTS to see in these cities. Thank you.

Hi, we visited Vienna in 2011 and took a day trip to Bratislava. We were in the company of our small daughter so did not venture beyond the old town. We were a little disappointed by what we saw as it wasn't all that different to walking around the residential parts of Vienna. We even did a tour on one of the old timers (cars) that drive around the old city and that did not really change much for us. However, we did not go up to the castle, which possibly would have been more interesting, and we also saw from the bus to the railway station a lot of interesting 19th century neighbourhoods. I would have been interested to visit some of those and also the newer city centre.
That day had been a toss-up between the abbey at Melk and Bratislava and Bratislava won. On reflection Melk would have been better. I'd seen the outside of it in 1988 and always wanted to go back. Oh well, next time...

you're a first-poster, so a tip to the wise:
for all we know, you're highly interested in antique porcelain spitoons, and hate castles. Without your having expressed any interests in what things light your candle, and what things put your flame out, we cannot respond helpfully.
We did Prague, Budapest and Vienna a couple years ago. You can find my trip reports at www.rimerson.com Look down the page for our travels.
We did this trip 2 years ago during the Christmas period, however we didn't visit Bratislava as we didn't have enough time. There are so much to see and do in these countries, so you need to do some homework first before finalising your itinerey like what tomboy said. You can read my trip report by clicking on my forum name. Good luck
