The jury is out on this one. I am intrigued by the mystery surrounding Bérenger Saunière and where he found the money for all his renovations. I've read the "Da Vinci Code" and "Holy Blood Holy Grail". From Google images it does look an attractive place but I just don't know....
How busy does it get with tourists? Is it worth visiting?
Thanks

Hi ESW. I was there a few years back in either late August or early September and it wasn't overrun with tourists. It was lively but not at all crowded. I don't know if at times it could get overrun though. I'm not too into the Da Vinci code so if you are there's probably more to it than I discovered. I just went there because it looked like a cute village on a hill, which it was. There are some beautiful views up there and I thought it was a rather pleasant place. It's not a place I personally would have gone out of the way for but since I was in the area I figured what the heck. I think we were doing a Cathar castle tour of the region that day. If you're a Da Vinci code fan I would think this is worth a visit.
I think it's kind of a meh! I went once and found it interesting and I enjoyed the views. I am not a Da Vinci Code enthusiast, but I was tooling around and thought I'd stop by. It was good, not great, and I wouldn't make a special effort unless you subscribe to the DV Code theory, which I do emphatically not. But if you do...go.
I read the book as a bit of fun and very much tongue in cheek. It's a good story.
I agree with the other replies. We stayed for a week in Couiza last year, so of course we visited. This was in early April and there were a few tourists. It is a pleasant place for a short visit. The views are lovely. If you are passing through Couiza, then it is a short detour. But I probably would not make a special trip. Unless you are a fan.
