I am renting a car in Berlin and driving to Szczecin and further. What insurance questions, if any, can I expect at the Germany/Poland border? I do not want to purchase CDW coverage from the rental company. Will Polish border accept my Mastercard credit card insurance coverage or will Polish border require something more explicit? Do they check at all?

I think your best option is to ask your rental company since many do not allow their cars to be taken from Germany to Poland. As far as insurance Rental company gives you ALL paperwork - so Polish border JUST looks at the paperwork which would include insurance card ( MC/Visa/Rental Company Insurance - all same card ) - Few years back ( going from Poland to Germany )also cars had to be labeled if they were crossing borders not to mention you also got special paperwork ( insurance included ) when rental was being taken out of the country. Not having appropriate paperwork / permissions from rental company can cause you not only issues / $$$ if anything happens to the car but also on borders ( although "open") you maybe spot checked and stopped and accused of theft... which happened to a friend in past ...
So just check and shop around - but make sure they are allowing rental out... Also there is public transportation from Berlin to Szczecin / Poznan / Warsaw ... where it maybe just better to take Bus / Train and then rent locally with local tags ...
I'm planning to rent a car at the Berlin airport and drive to Poznan/Lekno Poland for a few days. Has anyone encountered difficulties in crossint the border or otherwise with this arrangement? JHKringel, what was your experience?
