Would like to visit family in Marina de Massa while on vacation in SML. What would be the best way to get there and how long will it take?

You did not say if you want to drive or take public transport. I'd check the trenitalia website.
The best way to get there would be by car. It's about an hours drive. Public transportation will take a good 2.5+ hours. You could go by train to Massa which would take about 2 hrs. As Yorkshire says, go to the trenitalia site.
Then you'll need to take the bus #60 to Marina di Massa. Though maybe your family lives off another bus line or not in the center of Marina, etc. Ask them what to do once you get to Massa.
