I think I've got a fairly good idea of what to expect from a daytrip we're planning to take (by car) from Ljubljana to Lake Bled, then over to Lake Bohinj and then up the cable-car to the top of Mt. Vogel for the fabulous views.
But if anyone has done this before and has a great "don't miss this!" tip for us... I'm all ears! We'll be there less than a month from now. We're both fairly active and decent hikers; but mostly, we're in it for the photos.
Thanks in advance!

On this route, you surely should not miss Slap Savica, few kilometers from Vogel.
All right, good tip Nisho. I'll check it out. Thanks!
Anyone else?
At Bled, as you drive into town, you come over the brow of a hill and suddenly see the whole lake (so don't have you head in the map at that moment). Obviously walk up to the castle. You could eat pie in the restaurant in the castle next to the window with the main view of the lake, but if its booked you can get great cake at the bottom of the walk down from the castle.
Thanks, bilbo... I'm really starting to look forward to this trip! Whenever I can put two beautiful lakes, gorgeous mountain scenery, good hiking trails, an old castle and tasty cakes into a single afternoon, that's a good day!
Hi folks... posting from Croatia as we're getting ready for dinner. FYI, the walk around Lake Bled is fabulous, the views from the castle are splendid, but we didn't stop for cakes (alas). Also, Mt. Vogel was socked in by clouds so we skipped the cable car ride up.
The vacation is only halfway through, but Lakes Bled and Bohinj are definitely among the highlights.
How long will it take to drive from Lj town to lake bled? Then to the gorge?
Fed-ex me a Kremna Rezina from Bled.

It took us 45 minutes to drive to Lake Blen from downtown Lj. It's highway driving almost the entire way, easy as pie.
We took the trip several months ago... You can read our trip report here:
