Koninginnedag (Queens Day) goes ahead as normal - so all the kids with their music, jumble sales, crowds etc.
With regard to the abdication and investment the programme is as follows:
10 am: Queen Beatrix officially abdicates in the Palace on the Dam.
10.30-10.50: Princess Beatrix, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima appear on the balcony of the palace. They will make a short speech, and then be joined by the young princesses.
13.55 The King Queen and Royal Family leave the Palace for the Nieuwe Kerk.
14.00- 15.30 investiture of the King at the Nieuwe Kerk.
16.30. Reception at the Palace on the Dam.
So for those interested there may be a few chances to see the new King. I expect the Dam to be crowded for the balcony appearance, but that would be the best opportunity to see all the family.
I'll be watching in on TV probably. Unless it is a glorious day (like last year) in which case I'll be out bargain hunting at my own local Vrije markt

Just curious... When Queen Beatrix abdicates, she then becomes a princess again? She doesn't get to keep her title?

Yes she goes back to Princess again, just as her mother did.
Her mother lived round the corner from me, Beatrix will live in a small village in the woods where I walk my dog. I don't expect to meet her in the local book shop though as I did Princess Juliana.
