Urgently need help contacting mytrip.com

Mytrip claims to be an IATA accredited online travel agency.
They advertise an English helpline number +44 8447747881 but it now appears to us that this is only a front for a Greek company,
We booked flights with them on 9 February 2016 on Iberia Airlines (Madrid to Lisbon) and their subsidiary Air Nostrum (from Malaga to Madrid) . Mytrip.com immediately charged the cost of the flights to our credit card (travel card).
Two weeks later the airline changed the first flight making it impossible to make the connection to the second.
When we were notified we immediately requested that Mytrip.com change the flights to a practicable connection.
Despite repeated emails and expensive overseas calls to the Mytrip.com ‘help line’ Iberian Airways tells us that Mytrip.com has not made any request to change the flights.
Iberia Air says that they can not change the flights because Mytrip.com has not requested the change from them.
Iberia Air says that we cannot miss the first flight which now does not exist and just get to Madrid some other way in order to get on the second flight. In other words there is no way we can use the tickets we have paid for.
Mytrip.com does not respond to any of our emails.
And furthermore, apparently their helpline is a premium number which returns payment from the cost of the call to the company. (one phone call cost us 50 euros)
Does anyone know of any other way we can seek help or contact this company?

Try once more with Iberia Air and Mytrip.com.

If nothing works, contact the credit card company asap and get all the charges cancelled. Then rebook the flights directly with Iberia Air. A good credit card company is a friend in these situations.

If you have the confirmation numbers for your flights, and the flights are in your name, I see no reason for Iberia Air not to make the changes for you. Did Iberia Air notify you of the schedule change? If so, then they know who you are and that you are the ticket holders.

Check with your phone company. It might be worth while to have cheap international calling added to your package for a month or so. Then you could keep calling the company without such high costs. I know it works for a land line.

Have you reached the Mytrip.com by phone at all?

Do you have trip insurance? Last ditch effort, but they might be able to help.

That's why I always book directly with the airline and not a middleman. If you book through sites like Expedia the airline won't change anything for you without going through the middleman. Sounds like this is the same.

Agree that you should go through your credit card.

I don't know what you mean by a "front", having phone numbers in different languages isn't a front. Besides,it's very easy to see from their website that they are Greek-owned, it's no secret on there, it's right on the information page about the company.

http://www.mytrip.com/

they say <<Mytrip.com is owned by E-Travel SA, an Athens, Greece based online travel agency. E-Travel SA is a Greek registered company under the following:
e-Travel SA
7 Kifisias Ave., Ampelokipoi,
115 23, Athens, GR
Tax ID: EL998645900
IATA Accreditation: 2721308-2
Contact Us
Should you need to contact us you can use the following number:
+44-844-7747881 9.00-18.00 (GMT + 2)>>

Just being registered in Greece doesn't mean they aren't located in the UK, actually. But in any case, this was easy to find out when you looked at the website.

I don't know why you'd book airline tickets through them, either, but if you had a legitimate ticket, I'd work through the airline. I don't really understand how you can have a connecting air flight between Lisbon and Malaga, anyway.

If you book through a travel agent, (online or offline), you cannot change tickets directly with the airline. The tickets were purchased through the agency. Only the agency is authorised to ask IB to change the tickets. This is how it is supposed to be, it's not wrong or a problem.

I don't understand the itinerary & which bit of it was a connection, nor why the OP spent EUR50 on phone calls with no result.

Iberia did not notify the traveller directly of sched changes because it was booked thru a travel agent. The online travel agent notified the changes to the traveller.

People use online travel agents because they can get cheaper airfares than booking directly on airline websites.

>>but if you had a legitimate ticket, I'd work through the airline<<

One can't do that really -- the contract is not w/ the airline, it is with the agent.

As others have said -- your only recourse as I see it are either through mytrip, or contesting the charges with your credit card.

Christina, +44 usually indicates a UK number. (+44 844 should be in the Thame area, in Oxfordshire.) The Greek code would be +30.

The phone number is a British premium rate number, the company though is in Greece, as is stated on their website. They should tell you the number is a premium rate number, not a normal telephone number. The cost of calls to that number from a UK phone would be between 3p and 18p from a landline and 6p and 51p from a mobile. It is my understanding that they must make it clear it is a premium line before they start charging you. You could complain to http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/compla...aints/billing/ if they don't and try to get some of the costs for the calls repaid.

There seems to be a form you can fill in on the site to deal with changes, though I see they are also saying you should make use of EU law regarding flight changes, but I don't think that applies in this case.

Since you paid by credit card I would contact them asap and as for help.

I think Elliott.org is a US troubleshooter, and I'm guessing the OP is from UK.

I too am confused abut your flights based on your description - although that really isn;t the issue. Nor do I see the dates of your travel - so we dot know how little time you have left.

What I would do is contact your credit card, say the new flight you have are impossible and that the agency you purchased the tickets from refuses to fix the problem or contact you and have them cancel the charge.

Either mytrip will get in touch with you right away, or your money will be credited by your CC. Then I would get new tickets direct from an airline. (There is a reason that these discount agents charge much lower prices - and customer service is not one of them.)

I often book flights through Expedia, because often I can find cheaper or more convenient itineraries, especially those using more than one airline. To visit my daughter in Indiana, there is no single airline that can take me from my home airport to her home airport, so that trip is always booked through Expedia. The alternative would be to book separate itineraries, but that is too risky for my taste.

I've also sometimes had to change flights that I booked through Expedia, and have found them very responsive. Once, I had mistaken my departure date and realized it the next morning. Expedia told me it could be done free since I had reserved the flight less than 24 hours earlier. I wasn't expecting to be able to make the change free, and was quite happy to hear it.

I do also check the airline sites, and probably about half the time end up booking directly with the airline. However, some airlines are much less responsive, and also harder to contact, than Expedia.

Elizabeth: a premium rate number is one which costs more to call.

Interesting...never heard of it before. Looks like it might be more common in Europe. And ugh!

I loathe these middle men arrangements for fear of this very scenario, but that won't help you now.

I see on their site there is a place where one can change/cancel your flight reservation. You could try changing it yourself, and if charged for the change, take it up with the CC. Good luck, let us know how it goes.
