I really like your allotment of time in your locations.

How are you traveling from place to place: car, train, flights? A car would be helpful in England but a waste in your last four cities. You could fly from Paris to Venice and then train to Florence and Rome.

Have you thought about staying in apts in London, Paris, Florence and Rome?

The only minor quibble I might have is I might cut Florence to 3 days and add one day to Rome. There is soooooo much to see in Rome. But that is subjective and the way you have it is fine too.

I've never been to Florence so cannot comment, but agree there is so much to see in Rome. You can take a day trip to Orvieto to see a hilltop town. Nice change of pace from Rome.

We had a car in England and found it great. Be sure to get GPS. It is a must IMO.

I would cut one off Venice, not Florence. I am not the biggest fan of Rome, but it needs several days. But Florence does also.
And I also commend your allotment!!

I'd keep the Florence day and make it a side trip to Pisa and Lucca. You might say that Pisa is just a tourist town but it has some nice places and the train is just the local commute special so cheap and crowded. Lucca has a bunch of towers, a full wall (which you can ride a bike around) and some crowded streets.

If taking the train around Italy check out www.trenitalia.com for fares and if you want to lock your trains in stone and not change then take advantage of discounted tickets which however are sold in limited numbers and which to secure must be booked weeks if not months early - but you can save a lot over full fare - indeed very early booking can result in 9 euro tickets regardless of distance!

For lots on Italian trains I always spotlight these fab IMO sites - www.seat61.com; www.ricksteves.com and http://www.budgeteuropetravel.com/id12.html. If you want to wait until Italy to chose which trains to take you should always be able to do that even right before the train but you'll pay full price.

As for days in each place - 4 days would be too much for me in Florence unless I did some day trips - like to Pisa and or Lucca as recommended above or to one of those proverbial Tuscan hill towns - buses cost just a few euros to go from Florence to say Siena, to me one of the very best Tuscan hill towns. Otherwise yes Rome is much bigger with many more major sights that are far removed from each other than Florence, whose major sites are located in a rather compact historical city center.

hi everyone thanks for every reply they are very helpful and very carefully chosen. I am deeply sorry but we are not doing my ideas at the top that i posted, as everyone knows theres so much to see and we can not make up our mind we have an idea on where to go. I am very sorry, but the advice has been very helpful in many ways. any way this is going to be our final idea (hopefully) and we are looking for as much advice as possible. we are just looking at a taste for it for the children. where are the best places??? This is it so far:
London 7
Isle of man 4
Paris 5
Barcelona 4
Venice 4
Vienna 4
and after that we are not sure but we can only have 5 days left so we are thinking Germany, Madrid, Amalfi coast or somewhere else.

All i can say is that I'm glad you cut out liverpool and leicester, theres nothing worth seeing in those places. You should have added oxford to the list! Beautiful place.

Have not been to Leicester but absolutely loved Liverpool - one of the most fascinating cities I've been to - Beatles' fan or not!

@Havana128, Just my opinion but I suppose I could say I'm not a fan of those places. You could go to Liverpool if you have never been before but for me, I wouldn't go back and most UK residents wouldn't go out of there way to go there. For a person who is doing a flying tour of the country I would aim for other parts, such as the Cotswolds.
