Lately, I've been having problems with the site. Even navigating to the site I get an error message at times. Clicking on a thread may get me the thread., but it is just as likely to give me a "site not found" error. I just typed up a detailed description of this problem, and when I hit post, it said "Fodors is not responding" and I lost the post.
Is Fodors having server problems?

Now that I have successfully posted this, a bit more detail: This has been a problem for about the last 10 days. It happens both at home (Mac, cable) and at my office (pc, dsl).
Yes, I had a huge programmer debug traceback screen yesterday. It also takes a very long time for pages to load, and once I had one of the dreaded 404 type of error screens.
Seems like a server / code problem.
When you get that error message - it is 99% of the time just on the Forums. If you are like me, I have one of the forums bookmarked and that is how I get to the site. If I get that error - I use the Fodors homepage url - Fodors.com - and most times there is a nice message explaining they are temporarily offline performing and upgrade or maintenance. It has happened to me 3 or 4 times in the last 3 days - and each time there was the 'apology' screen.
So I just go do other 'stuff' and come back later. I guess it would be nice if that same nice/pretty 'Sorry we are offline' page would display on the forums links.
Apologies for the late reply. Yes, fodors.com was experiencing a few technical issues Monday night starting around 9pm EST and then again yesterday morning. The issues have been resolved. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I am still having problems, periodically, connecting to Fodors. Evidently the problem is still not totally fixed.
I just posted a new topic about Quotes... it was there and then it wasn't!
I swear, I didn't say anything BAD!
wtf?
Can I no longer "quote"????
Internet explorer has stopped working everytime I am on Fodor's. This s the second day of this. It says that Windows is trying to correct it but it keeps happening. Does not happen on any other website.
Anyone else with this problem?
Yesterday it was glitchy with me and I use Safari. All is fine now.
It is running really, really slowly - yesterday and today. I could go make tea in the time it takes to load one thread.
Glad to know it isn't just my computer. At times I've just given up getting onto Fodors. I wonder what's going on with their server.
My problem continues and it is only with Fodor's. I get a pop up message that says Internet Explorer is having trouble with the Fodor's webpage and they eihter try to correct or shut down. Very annoying.
Bryanc75, can you tell me what is causing this to happen only on the Fodor's website?
Just happened again - "Internet Explorer has stopped working due to a problem on this webpage. We will try to correct."
A few seconds later, it says it has to shut down.
It only happens on Fodor's.
Hi Marianna- Does it happen on any particular page of fodor's? I'm going to try to recreate the problem myself to see if I can get to the bottom of it.
Hi bryanc75, I will pay attention and let you know ASAP. Thanks for responding.
Well, I no sooner clicked submit and it happened!
This was the first time on submit.
And did not happen when I clicked on submit for the above.
Unpredictable.
Hi Marianna- I did some digging and I may have found the issue. Am I correct to that you use Internet Explorer as your web browser? If so, I think my change should help. Fingers crossed!
Yes, I do use Internet Explorer. It was fine yesterday afternoon and evening. As I explained, it only happens on Fodor's.
It seems that Malware was having a problem and we read online how to correct it. All seemed okay until just this AM when I went to Fodor's and a pop up came on that said Fodor's is having a problem. Then the screen went black twice and a pop up said that something was wrong with the Nvidia drivers. Not sure if it is on my end of things or yours.
Thanks for looking into it.
Nvidia drivers are on on your computer. In general they help process the graphics displayed. They are not specific to websites though.
Hopefully the problem is resolved with fodor's.
Thanks for the reply. I will check Fodor's on and off today and will let you know if anything happens. Thanks.
I have had a lot of trouble getting onto Fodors too. I figured it was bad karma for their Forum exclusions.
I've been having the same problem, but starting today when it took forever to connect to Fodors. But, the big problem is it taking forever to log in as it hardly ever logs me in on the first attempt. That has been going on for months.
Happy Travels!
I faced too
many time its takes me to another website instead of opening fodors. and some time i am getting error messages.
Please fix it
Guenmai - why do you need to logon? I keep a browser window open for Fodors, and never need to logon. My problem is that it often takes forever to open a thread.
I'm just one to not leave a browser window open.
Happy Travels!
Guenmai - reaally? Why not? I keep the ones I use most open all the time. I only close financial sites and sites I'm just visiting as a one off or occasionally. Of course, I have all the privacy and ad-blocker stuff I can find loaded.
FYU. You can tell Fodors to remember your login information when you login. It stores the fact that you are logged in inside a cookie on your system. As long as you don't delete that cookie then it doesn't matter if you keep the browser window open or not. You'll still be logged in when you return to Fodors.
That said, Fodors is having intermittent problems where loading a page is v e r y s l o w ...
Ooops ... I meant FYI!
I'm having problems getting pages to load. SOmetimes it starts as soon as I go to Fodors, sometimes the first page loads, but when I click on a thread, the page refuses to load. I'm only having this problem on Fodors.
Guenmai, you can have Fodors remember your log-in info without leaving a window open. Then you don't need to log in on that computer.
As of today, the loading problems seem to have been solved.
Not for me. Your May post is the only May post that I can see in the left hand column. The rest of the topics are quite old. It was fine an hour ago.
