My family and I are heading to Belize in a few weeks and I was hoping to stay a little while longer (maybe a month) and just work from there. I work from home so all I need is reliable internet...and ability to phone in for meetings.
I had assumed that I would just pay google voice a fee for minutes from Belize to the US but I looks like there is some VOIP ban or something that will make this not possible...
THIS IS A BIG DEAL as I can have 2+ hour calls a week and can't pay $2-3 a minute for that!
Can anyone help me? Are there any alternatives?
Thanks!

There are ways around the BTL block on VOIP and SKYPE. However, I don't know the particulars. Post your concern on this site, someone will probably be able to help.

The main internet provider in Belize is the telephone company (BTL) and they try to block voip.
The way around the block is to install a VPN on your computer. If you go to
http://www.belizeforum.com/
you'll find more on this subject. You might have to try a few VPNs before you find one that works. When I had BTL, a VPN worked for a while then it stopped working and I had to find another one. I eventually changed internet providers and don't use a vpn anymore.
There are other internet providers who do not block voip (my provider does not block), so ask your hotel about the internet provider and if voip can be used.
