Hi everyone-
I am arranging a visit to Ometepe with my girlfriend. We are thinking of Finca Del Sol based on Trip Advisor.
Does anyone else have any recommendations?
We are looking for something quiet, clean, safe first and foremost.
Thanks so much!

Was my base when I went to Omtepe they will have best current info. When there last FDS just some little cabinas VERY BASIC most of the Tripadvertizer reviews look culled and fake only the good ones are there to juice rankings. Not a lot of there there so I spent most of my time in Granada.
Greetings from Managua. Just ending up our 2 weeks in Nicaragua. We stayed a week in Ometepe last week. Lucked out with a five night stay at newly opened Finca Montania Sagrada. My review on Tripadvisor is not published yet, but you can read the tripadvisor reviews on Hari's horses where satisfied customers wrote about their stay and horse riding experiences. We walked around Merida (where Finca Montania Sagrada and hari's Horses is at) at night with no problems and felt safe. Kayaking in Merida is also highly recommended. And the finca is cheap right now since it's new $25/night with breakfast, dinner on request cooked by Italian co-owner.
forgot to mention, the room is a good size with really hot water which was a must for me as the mountain spring water is very cold (I suspect it's instant gas heater) and high ceiling with quiet fan. The balcony on the 2nd floor cabin looks out to the 2 volcanoes, one of the trails up Maderas Volcano and part of the lake. The first floor overlooked the organic garden. Good size balcony with hammock and 2 rocking chairs and electric outlets.
I didn't like Granada as much as Ometepe and Leon.
oops, forgot to mention the finca is cash only as is much of the island. good ATM machines available at Moyagalpan and Altegracia (the latter only accepts visa ATM card I think and didn't charge me a commission) There's a red bank in Granada which charged me US$4 commission and only allowed 2000 cordobas withdrawal, fortunately we found another around the corner one block east that's green and blue that was free and allowed 6000 cordobas. Bring small US notes, widely accepted. Nicaragua pretty safe we have found. But everyone warns you not to share a cab with strangers (colectivos)
and to use a licensed taxi only.
Finca San Juan de la Isla is safe, secluded and beautiful. The mile or two of dirt road to get there is brutal- we gave our taxi a break and walked through the plantain trees. Loved everything about it. A little pricey, but worth it, and CC are accepted.
Dear qwovadis, from hotelcolonialgranada.com
The cabins at the finca del sol are actually quite big (between 320 -640 square feet).
Each of them have a prite porch where to hang the hammock or the beach chair.
Each one has private bathrooms, a 21 inch screen, movies, orthepedic matresses, mosquito netting, purified water, fans, nightlights, daily maid service and there is even one cabin with hot water, and still Finca del Sol is really quaint, eco friendly ( 100% solarpowered) and the cabins are well done, decorated and compliment the enviroment. This is neither small or basic.
ALL of the trip advisor reviews were made by real guests that stayed here, that read the website, like a quiet location, that is layed back, close to nature. We are all that we claim on the website, nothing more & nothing less, and after all if you don't belive the tripadvisor reviews, don't bother reading them, it's so simple...
Quite frankly, we were really wandering if you even stayed in Ometepe island.
If people are looking for quiet, and enjoyment in nature, Ometepe is a great place! If you on the other hand are looking for bars, restaurants and city buzz etc...Granada would do just fine -However Mr, qwovadis it looks to me like to are just looking to sell your place in Granada, as you are writing from hotelcolonialgranada.com.
FYI, things to do in Ometepe include - hiking, kayaking, horseback riding, beach, lazing about in a hamoke and listening to the birds. There are many types of accommodations to choose from in Ometepe, based on all budgets - from camping, B&B to hotels - everything from $5 to $140 per night - you'll never know how it is until you make the jump and try it on for yourself.
The best advise I can give you is know what you are looking for & what area you would like to stay in....check out websites, TA reviews, etc until you get a good match for you - remember on TA everyone is different, and has a little different idea of what is good / bad etc...according to their personal expectations.
See you in Ometepe!
