Our upcoming Belize trip includes 3 nights in San Pedro at Victoria House. We will have dinner there one night, but I am trying to decide what other restaurants to try for dinner the other 2 nights. We would like something that is not seafood only (DH is not a big fan of fish dishes) and preferably with outside seating.
Hidden Treasure gets great reviews and the menu looks good, so that might be one, but please help us pick another one. Thanks
Restaurant in San Pedro - recommendation needed

Blue Water Grill, Wild Mangoes and soo many more
Thanks
It seems recent experiences at Blue Water Grill are not that great. We went there recommended by Victora House and did not like it...sort of a sports bar atmosphere and not that appealing. I think it used to get better comments. We really enjoyed Hidden Treasure and the small bar at the Victoria House near the water with same menu as formal dining room.
x, the food at Victoria House is very good. They have a high-end upscale restaurant and also a casual beach bar where you can eat. We liked Wild Mangoes too, and it's right on the beach with nice outdoor seating.
Also if you like ice cream, D & E's has good homemade ice cream and custard - very nice on a hot day.
VG, we'll dine at VH the night we get there. I think I read that both the restaurant and the bar have the same menu (and prices), is that accurate, do you remember?

I'll keep D&E in mind
x, no, when we were there, the VH restaurant Palmilla had a pretty swanky menu with most entrees being around thirty bucks or so, and the bar had much more casual food that was cheaper. The restaurant was the white linen type, and at the bar you could eat in your bathing suit and coverup if you wanted to. Not sure if that's still the same, but that's how it was when we were there. They're pretty different. I think they have sample menus on their website if you want to take a peek.
We also ate at a place in town called Fido's that was fine for casual food like burgers, nothing amazing, but I think they have live music at night. It has a big palapa and is on the beach. Or you could just eat every meal at D&E! That place was a little odd in that they don't go by the hours that are posted. People were lined up waiting when we got there - they needed their ice cream - lol. I think they show up when they want to, maybe ten or 15 minutes after the posted time, at least that was our experience. Worth the wait.
I much prefer Wild Mango's to Blue Water Grill. Although, we had sushi rolls from there a couple of nights ago that were excellent.
For things like burritos, pupusas and such, Waruguma is really god and very reasonably priced.
DJ's, which everyone says has wonderful burgers, is opening a new location just south of the bridge. It looks like it's going to be a nice space.
Licks, on the beach, right downtown has been getting good press as well. I've only had lunch there and it was very good.
For excellent local food, El Fogon is wonderful. I understand they're now open for dinner, I've only had lunch. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll even had gibnut (royal rat) on the menu......
Hmmm, maybe if the menu says gibnut, I would try it, not knowing what it is. But if they call is "royal rat" I'll pass. Even royal, a rat is a rat
Gibnut was served to Queen Elizabeth when she visited here, I think in the 1980's. It's been called the 'royal rat' ever since. It's actually a fairly good sized rodent. It tastes pretty good.
Maybe, but I don't think I could convince my mind to let me enjoy it.
We had dinner tonight at Caramba. Very reasonably priced for Ambergris. They had wonderful whole fresh fish, brought them out before they were cooked so you could pick the size you wanted.
That said, I had fried chicken. Another person had conch in garlic butter.
Everyone was very happy with their meal.
We just ate at Victoria House in Jan. 2013 and as mentioned above the menus are the same. They made that quite clear upon check in. As I had read before that others preferred the more casual bar/restaurant near the water we tried both and preferred the casual. Take a look at both and decide which one you prefer. Also the casual is nice for lunch.
Just got back on Monday and ate at Mangos twice. Loved it. I am a vegetarian and had the quinoa burger and my husband ordered it as well the second time even though he is not a vegetarian. It is a bit more expensive than some of the other resteraunts but well worth it, and outdoor seating. Fantastic smoothies and the flourless chocolate cake is to die for.
We also ate at Carambas a couple of times and liked that.
The Sandbar, (very casual) had the best pizza we ever ate!.
Reading this thread brings back nice memories of dinners at Caramba and Sunset something (help me here, Jean) with JeanH and hubby. We loved Blue Water Grill and Wild Mango's also. Lots of good places.

And JeanH, what was that really good little breakfast place on the beach? Esther's or something like that? Surely I have notes somewhere. . .
Hey, Shillmac, You're probably thinking of Sunset Grill. I don't here much about it any more. Last time I was there (and it's been a while) the service was awful.
The place on the beach for breakfast is Estel's. Still there, still good.
This morning we had breakfast next door to us at Catamaran beach bar. Reasonably priced and good.
Just got back a few days ago – we loved our dinners at Victoria House, Wild Mango’s and Hidden Treasure. Lunch at VH was very good, too (we liked the casual bar by the water, and never tried the indoors restaurant).
That's awesome, x - glad you guys liked it.
