Hi:
Can anyone comment on safety in the State of Guerrero, specifically for Troncones near Ixtapa/Zihuatenejo during the Christmas/New Year's period ? The American Government website speaks about northern and southern areas of the state but it's hard to know what they include in their categories...

Are you driving? If so, from where? I've got friends that drive from San Miguel all the time with absolutely no issues. I drive in Michoacan often as well. If you're flying, then don't worry at all.
Troncones is a lovely beach that is difficult to swim due to undertows which will be your biggest danger.
The Beach front is now mostly owned by Gringos so not very Mexican. The town (what there is of it) is still very Mexican but not the beach.
