Looking for feedback from those who know South Water Caye. Our family (parents/three teens) is going to Belize in late March and after lots of research, we've zeroed in on SWC. We're experienced travelers and love lower key destinations (went to Culebra PR for 4 years). We did Costa Rica last year so not focused on rain forest this time. Two of us are experienced divers, everyone else snorkels, we love the beach. Relaxing and spending family time is key. So is South Water Caye a good choice for a weeklong stay? Thanks.
South Water Caye, Belize for one week?

I love it; a small 15 acres caye on the reef about 10 miles from the mainland with two other small inns. Great diving and walk in snorkeling in the reserve. Belize mainland has Mayan sites and cvaes with artifacts that CR does not have and we are multicultural.
Thanks for the response, Katie. I do appreciate the Mayan and historical/cultural factor - I just meant that I wasn't looking to repeat the zip lining/jungle adventure activities.
FancyDay,
We will be there for 6 days in February - true, we have another week on mainland, but based on what I read, SWC is a wonderful place if you are looking for peace, quiet, good diving/snorkeling, few people, water, sun and sand.
I will post again when we come back.
Bookmarking - sounds nice!
xyz99,
Are you staying at Pelican Beach or Blue Marlin?
We are staying at Pelican Beach.
Wow, I checked out some pictures. Looks so beautiful.
South Water Caye Marine reserve is Belize's largest marine protected area just 10 miles off the coast of Southern Belize. The reserve encompoasses over a dozen major cayes and many smaller islets including Man-o-war caye, a sanctuary for frigate birds and brown booby birds. (I am quite sure there will be enough vacay adventure for a week's worth there. If not, you can always travel and explore TOLEDO DISTRICT http://www.travelbelize.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/belize_travel_guide.pdf or other island and cayes close by in that same district (Gladden Spit and Silk Cyaes Marine Reserve etc) Hope this helps
Thanks, Lenn_Ayuso. We're booked. You validated the decision!!
