I think your chip crunching critter sounds like a coati.
It was probably a good thing that you were asked for your passports at check in in Valladolid as otherwise you might have not realised you'd left them behind in Tulum!

The little creature was cute like a coatimundi but he had a skin tail. I wish I knew what he was. He was incredibly cute!
We wish that we had remember the camera, and my wallet
It was very nice to notice that we had left our passports before we were pressed for time and at the airport. We really did not mind going back to Tulum just one more time before we had to go home.
Thanks for sharing. We are going to Instituto Chac-Mool Spanish School in Tulum soon and will be touring the Yucatan after. Can't wait!
