We are leaving at 6 a.m. from SJ airport. So we thought we would go up for a day if there was a lot to do in the area? We can either go on Sunday and depart Tuesday. Or Monday and I suppose just do a nice dinner.

If you want a city hotel, Grano de Oro is nice. It's built in an old mansion so has some neat architecture, great service, nice rooftop garden with hot tubs. It has an excellent restaurant on site. If you want someplace with a great view, we also love Xandari. It has nice hiking trails, some small waterfalls on the property, and a good open air retaurant. You could go to the La Paz Waterfall Gardens or the Doka Coffee Estate; those are pretty popular. We haven't done any of the museums, but people recommend the Jade and Gold Museums, seeing the National Theater, and shopping at the Central Market. People tend not to spend too much time in San Jose. It's not that pretty, lots of bars on the windows, etc.
