Relaxing Southern Road trip Suggestions

We are trying to plan a last-minute vacation in late March/early April. My parents are in Southern Florida and we are in Chicago. Our plan is to rent a house somewhere in between. Everyone is COVID cautious, but we will all be vaccinated. Our ideal location would be a mix of nature, but with restaurants that we can eat outside or get food to go. I can picture a mountain lake house or a beach house. My worse nightmare would be an overcrowded tourist trap, but I do not want a rural location where we are forced to cook because of limited options. We all enjoy trying new restaurants and sampling local breweries. Thanks for any advice!

Asheville would be nice. Lots to do. Good food.
Greenville SC could work. Good museum. Good food. College town
Beaches in SC maybe around Charleston. Or a little north of Charleston around Pawley's Island and Litchfield. A LOT to do there--

3 out of 4 of us loved Asheville. I was thinking my husband and I might do a detour to do a mini brewery tour depending on where we end up. I will look into Greenville SC. I was thinking about Charleston and Savannah. I have never been. I was concerned the beaches would be crowded since this is Spring break. Thanks!!!

I don't think the SC beaches will be spring breakers-. If you haven't been to Charleston, I'd do that. The weather will be nicer than in the mountains. And it should be azalea/dogwood season.
