We will be in Rio for two days and my husband would like to eat at a Brazilian churrascaria steakhouse. We have them in the US, i.e.., Fogo de Chao. Do they exist or are they just made up for the US market?

Yes, they exist. If you are in the Copacabana area I recommend Carretao.
No, churrascarias are not "made up for the U.S. market". Brailians enjoy them too.
But Rio is VERY expensive these days and the most touristic of the churrascarias are U$80-100 per person for a meal and drinks, and not good value for money IMO.
There are several in the Porcao chain (Flamengo, Ipanema, Barra de Tijuca), one of which is particularly well known for the view. There is Carretao in Copacabana and near Praca General Osorio in Ipanema. There is Estrela Do Sul, a good value, with a few locations. http://estreladosul.com.br/home/
There are Espeto e Brasa and also Pampa Grill and Majorica and Churrascaria Palace and and Churrascaria Gaucha and some smaller good ones scattered around the city. You can get churrasco at Marius Degustare in Leme. There is even a Fogo do Chao.
In fact, most any city or town in Brazil will have a decent churrascaria.
I'm sure you can spend $80+ a person, but I certainly didn't!
Thank you for your quick responses! We are actually on a cruise ship in Rio for two days. Are the prices any less if you have lunch rather than dinner? Does anyone know if any of the recommendations are near the port? Thanks!

We even ran into a churrascaria in Manaus, in the heart of the Amazon. Our day guide rec'oed it. We skipped those in Rio not being big meat eaters, but we spotted them all over town.
Manaus is a city, a major one; of course there are churrascarias. Tell me that you found one a couple of days' boat ride out into the jungle from there and maaaaaaaybe I'd be surprised.
