The new slogan is "The only risk is not wanting to leave" so how could safety be a concern anymore??? In all seriousness, I've heard that so long as you're careful in the cities, just like any other city in the world, you should be safe. We're planning a trip right now and we're focusing most of our time seeing Cartegena, and we're also visiting Villa de Leyva and Bogota too. The area near the coffee plantations looked lovely too, but we don't have time since we have only 9 days.
Go to Cartegena, what a great city. We were there 2 months ago. Its like walking through europe in a caribbean setting, just awesome!
Colombia (note o not u) is a beautiful country and the people are great. We spent all of January and February there. We never felt at risk. We went independently and took some buses. I posted a log on going trip report. A few others posted on fodors as well recently. Two weeks isn't long though. Maybe just Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena? But you'll probably need to fly between cities.
