Good evening!
My friend and I are planning our first trip to Peru and would like to hear some of your ideas on how to split up our trip or if you have suggestions of other places that we shouldn't miss while we're there! We plan to be there after Christmas 12/26 to 1/4/12 flying out from NYC or DC (depending on where flights are cheaper) - so the dates aren't entirely set yet.
- Lima (2 days)
- Cusco (1 day)
- Sacred Valley (1 day)
- Machu Picchu (4 days) - with trail perhaps
Is there anywhere we're missing? If you have any tips (or warnings for getting from place to place), that will be great to know as well.
As always, thank you for your help in advance!
Christine

If you are not doing the Inca Trail, I would suggest moving more days from Machu Picchu into the Sacred Valley time. There are many sights to see in the Sacred Valley. We took four days alone to see those and Cusco (and I'm sure there are things we did not see).
P.S. Also, I'm pretty sure Inca Trail tickets are sold out for the remainder of 2012, but I would look into that ASAP if it's something you want to do.
You can check availability here:

Of course the peak holiday week is sold out, but there are tickets available starting on December 31, however that would require you to stay a day or two past Jan 4 in order to get back to Cusco and fly to Lima.
Thank you shutterbug85 and mlgb! These are helpful tips! Good point on the Inca trail - it looks like the earliest we can do it is over New Year's.
