I'm coming from McAllen, TX and by public transportation I'm talking buses, ferries, or trains, not air travel. I also would like to stop in Belo Horizonte, Brazil to see some good friends. This is a really important goal of mine. Please provide as many details as possible for how I can go about this type of journey.
Is it possible to travel by land and sea to the tip of Argentina?

Plaeas see my reply on your other post - www.andesmar.com and
www.viabariloche.com.ar are good resources for bus info. www.saexplorers.org I would say is essential for this type of trip. I have thought of travelling "Ruta 40" which runs from the north to the southern tip along the Andes the either by car or . We did parts of the route it a couple of years ago and loved it. Much of it is covered by bus routes although I am not too sure about the far south). Some of the route is paved , some just gravel but that doesn't seem to matter too much to the buses.
You do need to check your timings/weather as travel can get difficult in Patagonia in the winter. Also, check out the Navimag Ferry in Puerto Natales - Puerto Montt as this could provide an interesting option
Thanks your reply was especially helpful. I'll be sure and check out the other replies as well.
