Hello all! I have been looking through horseback trip stuff and can't find exactly what I'm looking for. I am an experienced rider (owned horses from age 5-19). I'm 24 in relatively good shape and not afraid to "rough it"....i.e. camping and doing most of the horse care myself. I would love to take a long trip (at least 9 days....preferably more) in June and am fine with ending up somewhere else/willing to travel to where the trip starts. Almost every trip I've found looks too expensive for me, tailored to inexperienced riders or (related to price) really fancy. I could push and spend around $1500-$2000 for the trip, but I'd rather find something for less....My goal monthly budget is around $2,000 but I'm willing to save a little on the side before my trip to do this. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I was looking for something similar a couple of years back but never pulled the trigger. There was one stable that had a neat week long ride around the mountains and volcanoes. I'll try to find that info. Meantime, here is a different one which I have in my file: http://www.ilaloexpeditions.com/pages/ilaloh-tours-p7.htm
Ah, here it is: http://www.rideandes.com/horseridingholidaysecuador.html
I think this is the actual operator of the rides in the Ilalo Expeditions link above.
Another woman and I are going on a nine day trip out of Quito the first of April. You can email sere@alegriafarm.com for information. Our check out Fifty Things to Do in Quito; they're listed at that site. Good luck.
Horse riding is a very nice way to discover the parks and enjoy the pretty landscapes of Ecuador! You can easily find local tour operators once there if you can't book before. Meanwhile I can't help you with costs. Here some useful information: http://en.ecuador.travel/what-to-do/for-activities/adventure-tourism/horseback-riding . If ever you're interested for adventure and wildlife information in Ecuador, please ask!
I'm traveling in Ecuador right now, staying in Quito at the moment. As I'm traveling alone, I like to do some organised tours around Quito to meet some more backpackers. I found a very good tour operator and they offer a lot of different tours.
I haven't done it yet but here's the link for some horse back riding

you also have the possibility to create a tour by yourself, just surf the website
I've been here for about 4 weeks now, and I already fell in love with the amazing scenery and people of Ecuador.
I hope you'll love your trip!
cheers
