My husband and I are visiting Buenos Aires for 5 days at the beginning of March.
I am considering a hotel that is near the intersection of Uriarte and Soler in Palermo Soho.
Is this a safe location? I felt like it was, but upon reading a Lonely Planet entry about how Godoy Cruz (just a couple blocks away) is the red light district and should be avoided at night for safety reasons, I got worried.
But the Lonely Planet was from 2007, so I'm wondering if the area has changed and is now safer?
I know precautions should be taken everywhere, and safety is no guarantee anywhere, but I'd just like a sense of whether or not this is an area that is safe to walk around at night, or if there are other neighborhoods that might be better?
Palermo Soho--safety near Uriarte and Soler?

krmanger,
My husband and I just returned from BA yesterday. We stayed at L'hotel Palermo which is at the intersection of Thames and Honduras (close to Uriarte and Soler), and we had no problems at all. The streets are very busy at night because of all of the bars and restaurants, and we walked everywhere. I think that BA is just like every other city. If you are smart and aware, you will be fine. If you are still not satisfied with the area of your hotel, take a look at L'hotel. We had a nice stay there in a beautiful room. If you do choose that hotel, make sure to get one of the upgraded larger rooms. It is worth the extra money. Have fun in BA!!
Thanks Macksix! L'Hotel looks beautiful. Thank you so much for your advice!
