Hi,
I plan to travel to Bogota on December 29th and it is really difficult to obtain information on some things I need. Could you assist?
1. What guidebook do you recommend for my sightseeing of all the beautiful colonial monuments in Bogota? Lonely Planet? Frommer’s? I have no idea.
2. How long are the durations from Bogota to Popayan and to Villa de Leva and are the buses frequent? Perhaps I should fly from Bogota to Popayan. If so, then approximately what does the flight cost round-trip?
3. Is it easy in Colombia to get a SIM card for my iPhone for international calls and wide-ranging Internet connection?
4. Can you recommend a clean, simple and affordable place to sleep in Bogota (I was thinking this: http://www.koziihostels.com/)?
5. What airlines do you recommend to get from Bogota to Sucre, Bolivia (perhaps with Aercon, Amazoa or Aerosur) or at least into Salta, Argentina?
Thank you for your help.
Charlie

Hi, I am from Bogotá and find it quite difficult to answer all of your questions. When you are a local you just live there and do not think too much about accomodation and stuff.
What I can tell you is that going from Bogotá to Villa de Leyva can take you around 2 1/2 hours and there are several buses going everyday, not to worry about that. Roads in Colombia are always an issue and going to Popayán could be exhausting flying might be a better idea.
Getting a SIM card is just as easy as it sounds, but I´m not sure about getting an internet connection with your SIM... you might have to sign for a contract with the mobile company I would say.
About the location of the hostel I think is well located, easy to get in and out of the area.....I personally don´t like Bogotá´s City center but it is different when you are a tourist, an Aussie friend of mine stayed in a hostel there and had a good time....it depends what you are looking for and what´s your personality type.
One question though, Why you want to go to Popayán? just curious!!!!!!
You can write to me if you have any questions, I´ll be more than glad to help!!!!
