Just wondering what everyone thinks of that. I desperately need a vacation and those two places have always been on my list... How would they be if I traveled there alone? I was thinking a 5-7 day cruise, maybe some hot springs, maybe Sacha for a few days.... I dont LOVE unbearably hot weather. I take it December/January is an awful idea? Thoughts? Thx in advance!!

I think you will be fine travelling to these places alone, especially if you arrange transfers from the airport to pre-booked accommodation and have a guide for any day trips, especially around Quito.
San Cristobal in the Galapagos was very safe. I would expect that Sacha Lodge would look after the Quito-Sacha transfers and back however you may need to book a transfer from your accommodation to the airport.
Los Alpes is a reasonably priced, family run place to stay in Quito.
Have you considered a land-based itinerary in the Galapagos such as that offered by Red Mangrove, http://www.redmangrove.com/ We booked our Galapagos and Ecuador trip through Nature Expeditions International and were very happy with the arrangements that they made on our behalf.
