I agree with Budman. This site is great for getting opinions and factual info about location, etc. But for anything like government/agency policy, law, regulation, etc., it's best to go to "the source" and not rely on us, who could steer you wrong.

Agree - get legal advice elsewhere. But I do know that you don't sign anyone elses name to anything - even if you have power of attorney, guardianship, are a parent - you only sign your own name on documents.

I don't recall having to sign my passport, just the application - will dig it out of file and check.

Who Should Sign My Child’s Passport?

Children, who are able to sign their names, may do so. Otherwise, a parent may sign for the child by writing the child’s name on the signature line and signing the parent’s name above the child’s name.

Can you picture the customs people , checking passports, and seeing this little scribble where the baby signed its name lol!

Scarlett, true story:

When we came to USA and got our Green Cards, my younger son was 8 years old. The clerk told each one of us to sign the card in his presence. Of course my 8-year-old signed his card the way he used to at school - first name and the first leter of his last name.

I still have a copy of the card issued to Baby Again signed as Baby A

When i called our local post office(where we got the passports) they told us BOTH parents had to sign.
