This is our 1st family vacation. We are traveling in a truck with a pop up, ATV, paddle boat and an 8 year old. Our Goal is to get to yellowstone and see as many states as possible along our Round Trip. Any suggestions. Want to cover the entire US by the time James Graduates at 18, hitting several states each year. We'd be going though MN and Iowa as we come and go through ND, Montana, WY, NE, SD. Appreciate your input, thanks.
17 days from Crivitz WI. to Yellowstone

Welcome to Fodors, Sabrina_Edwards! I applaud your goals and we will help out as much as we can.
First of all, how much time do you have for this particular vacation? Let me suggest you try to make these a 2-week annual trip. At a minimum. If you are wanting to drive especially, a week or 10 days will just give you memories or endless driving a/k/a National Lampoon Family Vacation.
Now - since you are traveling with a boat (apologies, but could you clarify "paddle boat"?) and ATV - what are your interests and expectations? Do you want to camp? How much outdoors/nature are you shooting for, and how much (if any) hotel?
Where do you expect to be able to ride 1 ATV? There are many places including National Parks where they are illegal to ride.
Plan on a stop in Mitchell SD to see the Corn Palace and Mt. Rushmore. Make a stop in NE Wyoming to see Devils Tower before you get to Yellowstone.
You can cross Nebraska on some future trip to Colorado and Utah.
I'm 62 and still have not made it to Alaska and Hawaii.
