Traveling in July with kids. We have a long layover in Newark. I was wondering if there was anything around with a $10-15.00 taxi ride to explore.
22 hr Newark airport layover- any sites to take in close to the airport?

About 10 miles away is the Turtle Back Zoo, a fun place to visit

How about the Liberty Science Center? It's a great, interactive museum with lots of activities for kids of all ages.
Are you sure you can't get to your final destination sooner by flying to and out of a different airport? Are you planning on spending a night in an airport hotel near EWR?
Both BWI and EWR have Amtrak train stations attached to them if that would help.
Thank you all for your info, the zoo and science center sound like great choices! I actually want the long layover. I'm flying back home to Bermuda and any other flights out in New England fly at 6 or 7 am - horrors when you are traveling alone with 2 kids. This connection allows me a later departure, a price I will pay :0)
Now I understand. Would this work for you? Fly into Philadelphia or BWI the day before. See either Philadelphia or Baltimore for the afternoon and then take an Amtrak train to the EWR station either evening or mid morning. Show your that-day Amtrak stub to the shuttle employee to get a free ride to the EWR terminal.
Philadelphia and Baltimore have much more for you and your kids to see.
