My sister, from AL, and I, from TX, are headed to New England for a long weekend, in late October.
We will fly into Albany, take route 7 up to Manchester, and then will keep driving thru VT.
We will then cross thru NH, and drive over to see the coast.
Looking for best things to see in Vermont.
Where to go in NH.
Rocky coastline in NH or ME.
Then we will head back across MA to Albany, with a stop in the Berkshires.
We are fine with driving the smaller roads, and stopping to take photos.
Don't want to hike, just drive , stop, look and drive some more.
I think we will stay more south in VT, NH becasue of the late season for foliage.
Any advice?
Thanks ya'll

Weston Vermont has the Vermont Country Store and the Weston Priory and a quaint village greeen
You don't have much time to get out an sight see with only four days....
I'd head east out of Manchester and focus on the Keene/Peterborough area of NH. Then make a stop in Greenville at Pickity Place for a nice lunch...you will need reservations.
As for shoreline, I would probably go for the Kennebunk area...most likely to still have restaurants/shops open. Many of the smaller vacation towns will be closed up for the season.
The Vermont Country Store and Pickity Place are good suggestions. Starting from Albany, you could go across both VT and NH in a couple of hours. I'd say head for Portland ME for 2 nights. That would give you time for a day trip to Rockland (Farnsworth Museum?) and more rocky coast. If it rains, there are things to do in Portland. Beaches south of Portland tend to be sandy; north ar rocky. Then head to the Berkshires. Might do a little Rt 1 in Rye NH to see the beautiful mansions along the coast.
To me, the most scenic easterly route across NH is from Concord via Rt 4 to Portsmouth. There is farmland just before Dover Point and the bridges over Great Bay. You can connect with I95 in Portsmouth. Rt 101 from Manchester is dreadfully boring and a limited access hwy.
I suggest driving back to Albany with Route 2 and avoid 90 if possible. It is the least scenic road in the most scenic part of Mass. Try to stop get to MT Greylock, highest point in MA and it is some amazing views. I agree with others, Weston Vt to Peterborough to something around Kennebunkdown to Mass and out on Route 2 if possible would be your best bet if you only have 4 days.
I just looked on a map and saw that Route 2 does go all the way out to the Berkshires. Once you get past Orange, it gets really, really, Newenglandy with farms and forest and maybe a stray river in between.
Massachusetts will be beautiful then, I don't know exactly which route these are on but if you have time you should stop in these places: Boston, so much history and fun activities (Freedom Trail, museums, tours); Cape Cod (right off of the water with beautiful sand dunes, lighthouses), Newport Rhode Island to see the mansions (crazy mansions you can take tours of, the Breakers is my favorite); and New York, New York (Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, walk the Brooklyn Bridge, see a musical) and more.
Lots of great ideas.
We can see lots in 4 days, so no problem there. My family drove from TX to Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, Devils's Tower, Grand Tetons, Lake Tahoe, San Francisoo, Muir Woods, Yosemite, Death Valley, Vegas, Grand Canyon, plus Petrified Forest (haha), all in 17 days.
Thank you for all your info.
I may ask more questions soon.
Late October will be a little late for foliage in VT & NH, but there still may be some. Driving east from Manchester VT will take you near Chester, Grafton & Saxons River Vermont - 3 very picturesque little villages. Crossing over into New Hampshire you will be near Walpole, another nice little town. There is a spectacularly situated winery high in the hills just outside Walpole, but I'm not sure if it will be open. The southwestern corner of NH is quite scenic, and Peterborough is worth a stop. If you have time, Shaker Village in Canterbury is very scenic and interesting. The drive on rte 4 to the seacoast is nice - not memorably scenic, but it's known as 'antique alley' due to the large number of small antique shops. Most of the Maine coast is quite scenic, but you'll have to get off rte 1. Don't miss Nubble Lighthouse in York, or the Marginal Way footpath in Ogunquit.
