Hello,
I live in Southern California and I am planning to purchase a living room sofa set from a furniture store in GUANGDONG, CHINA. The sofa set includes: sofa, loveseat, arm chair, coffee table, 2 end tables. They told me the ocean shipping cost is $1900 from Guangdong, China to Los Angeles port in California.
I would like to know how much I have to pay for taxes/customs, as one of my friend told me that it might be duty FREE for furniture. I have to consider to add all these costs before I make the decision. Please help me.
Thank you.

I just joined Fodors today and it was my 1st post. Thanks for telling me.
You joined a travel forum to ask about buying furniture? Ya I can see howt that makes sense.
Why not? It's about travel, only it's furniture traveling not people. The major question is whether the furniture should go through Death Valley in the middle of August or not.
Well it is tagged Arizona, California, Colorado & Oregon. Sounds like it will be a long haul.
Yes, it would be a long haul, especially if shipped via USPS.
Besides the duty - I don't think it's free but you need to check the US customs website - you typically also need to pay someone to take it through customs for you and then get someone to pick it all up and deliver to your house.
Sounds like it would be a very complicated, expensive process.
