I'll be in St. Louis this Wednesday and would appreciate recommendations for great BBQ for DINNER near my doctor's office: 4921 Parkview Place - downtown at the Wash. Univ. School of Medicine. Can take cab or walk, but it must be a safe location as I am traveling alone. Thanks!

Marlene,
Sorry that I am just now seeing this - You are there and back by now.
Did you find some good BBQ?!
If I were to hazard a guess, I'd guess not. Unlike Kansas City, St. Louis doesn't have much in the way of BBQ, though it does have a lot of Italian and steakhouse style spots.
I thought St. Louis was known for their own BBQ style? Always thought it was Memphis, NC, KC, and St. Louis style. Got a visitors guide and BBQ is not even mentioned. Thoughts/Clarifications?
StL has some ecxcellent BBQ spots - One has won all sorts of Nationall BBQ awards - it is called Pappy's. It is near STL University.

There are others too. We dont have landmark BBQ joints ike Memphis or KC though.
There is one way out in the county that has also won major awards called - Super Smokers. I think one of the Presidents went there in the last several years.
Not sure why this old thread has been revived but....
jedivader, there is a CUT of ribs called "St. Louis style" ribs. It has to do with how the butcher divides the ribs (or something like that). It has nothing to do with St. Louis being a city with good BBQ. So your visitor's guide is essentially correct.
However, if you're coming to St. Louis, there are two places worth mentioning. Pappy's, anne provided a link above. And, Bogart's, near Soulard market, http://bogartssmokehouse.com/
Thanks for the info on St. Louis BBQ. The thread was revived because I am headed there and figured on posting here instead of starting a new one.
If you need any other local information please let us know!!
Definitely try some of our local BBQ - I think it is quite good and really rivals anything I have had in BBQ towns!!
