I am looking to move to a small town in Kansas but I am wondering if anyone has any good places where the rent isnt really high and where the people are friendly for the most part.

Oh my...it's a big state! Do you have any preference at all as to the region? And how small? Do you need to be close to an interstate highway or airport?
I don't have a lot of experience with small towns, but have heard they can be kind of "clique-y" and if you haven't lived there forever, like they have, they can be wary.
Not to be too nosey but do you have job skills? Commuting distance might become a factor if you had to find a job.
If you are independently wealthy and buy a house for cash the locals might treat you differently.
If you have a great idea for a new product, you might want to live in Nebraska and talk to Warren Buffet.
Don't have any first-hand experience in KS, but have family that really likes the small town of Independence in southeastern KS.
Do have a lot of small town experience and in most of them you'll be accepted without problem if you get involved in the community with volunteer groups/service clubs/church/etc.
I am self employed in computer repair/ builds and I dont really have any preference as to airport or interstate. I am involved in my community and I love to help others. I have my own income so I am not worried about that factor. I would like to move to a community that is people friendly.
My son is in Wichita. That's the place if you are in the aircraft industry. But since you aren't perhaps a nearby town. Hope you like warm weather and the plains.

i dont mind the plains nor the weather as well. i am not that concerned about the earthquakes either.
Take a look at Newton which is north of Wichita. It has an Amtrak station and a small college which might be good for your computer jobs.
I have heard that Lawrence KS is more sophisticated and liberal-minded that many other places. But I have no personal experience.
I would have to agree re: Lawrence (above), but college towns (it's the home of KU) are probably not the best choice if you are looking for cheap rent because the demand is so high.

I'm from Wichita born and raised. If you want a small town Wichita is not small. But near Wichita has many smaller towns around it. Newton's good. If you don't want to be near a big city like Wichita, there's quite a few small towns that are historic and are doing well. Pittsburg, Emporia, Manhattan. Near Kansas City there's Lawrence and Leavenworth. Atchinson is farther north of Leavenworth. And that's just eastern Kansas. Westem Kansas is a beast I know nothing about.
