I'd recommend:
French Cafe
M's Pub
V Mertz
Upstream Brewing Company
All are in the downtown Old Market...can't go wrong with any of them. I believe they all have websites if you want to check them out.
If you happen to hook up with someone with a car, Jams is great and also, Mark's in Dundee is excellent with wonderful ambience. An old converted house...fun! Also, with a car, Pasta Amore

Tess - are most of the restaurants that you recommended "kid-friendly"? I'll be there in September with two kids ages 1 and 3.
You should be fine at M's Pub or Upstream. A little iffier on the other two (I remember those days!).
Sorry I'm posting after your visit, but I have to add my favorites. Born, raised, and currently living in Omaha, so I know what I'm talking about.
Nicolas (13th and Jackson) Great Italian food that's affordable. Outside seating as well.
Ahmad's (10th and Howard) Great Persian Food. My favorite restaurant in town.
Blue (11th & Howard) good sushi, cool atmosphere.
Stokes (11th & Howard) good southwestern. get sharon's enchaladas. It will change your life.
All in Old Market. Let me know if you want other areas of Omaha. We have a lot of good unique restaurants.
