We are going to be staying in the Brevard area for a week at the end of August. We have 2 small children ages 4 and 5. We are hoping to do several things such as visit the waterfalls in Dupont State Forest, go to Asheville for the day and go to the Apple Festival in Hendersonville. We are from Ohio and have never been to the area. I am hoping someone can offer some recommendations.
1. A great place to see the Blue Ridge Parkway from there?
2. Other neat things we all may be interested in/not to miss in the Brevard area?
3. Whether some of the other state parks such as Ceasar's Head and Table Rock in SC are worth the drive?
4. What else besides the Biltmore mansion we don't want to miss in Asheville?
5. Are there any historical civil war or revolutionary sites to see here?
I really appreciate any advice!

Enjoy your vacation!
Brevard has an absolutely wonderful music camp in the summer. You might enjoy a concert or two.
The Cradle of Forestry exhibit is near there in the Pisgah. I'll have to look up the dupont forest (maybe that is what you are calling the Pisgah)--not sure where that is. you are a bit of a way from Asheville.
Slideing Rock is near Brevard, again in the Pisgah. Got to Mt. Pisgah for a view, if the clouds aren't too low.
August may be early for the apple festival.
It's a pretty area.
The Biltmore House may be "above" your kids' age/understanding.
