I just looked at a map quickly and saw that Jackson Avenue runs for a least a couple of miles (it is broken up by a park it appears and then picks up again). You will need to give more info in order to get any useful info.

You need to be very careful about driving an RV through NYC, of which the Bronx is part as noted above. There are some roads where an RV is NOT allowed - namely various parkways like the Bronx River pkwy and Hutchinson pkwy.

In fact, all over New England there are parkways going to places you will want to go that do not permit RVs owing to low clearances on bridges. The Merrit Parkway in Connecticut is a great way to avoid I-95 but not in an RV: 1930's bridge clearances!

A couple of people every year forget this on Memorial Drive in Cambridge MA and Storrow Drive in Boston with the result of a deroofed RV and massive traffic jams.

I am merely meeting up with the friends on Jackson and then we're heading immediately outbound (probably on Geo Wash Bridge), not spending any time in the city. We'd like to find a place to relax, eat and rest after driving all night that is outside of the Bronx. I see there's a Days Inn somewhat close by--anyone have any thoughts. What about any of the surrounding areas that are spacious, clean and close to the highways? Good restaurant suggestions anywhere with a large parking lot? We are open to ANY suggestions and we'll continue to research from there. I appreciate your responses but am uncertain what other info to include as we are all pretty lost.

NYC - not even the Bronx is not set up for large RVS. Traffic is very heavy and parking is scarce. I can't imagine any place that would want their parking lot blocked up by 2 huge behmoths - in the room you could park 8 or 10 cars.

Several of the routes leading to and from the GWB are parkways and you cannot dive RVs on them - not only would there be huge fans - but the RV is likely to get stuck under a bridge.

Also, many areas of the Bronx are not that pleasant - not places you would want to eat - or leave an RV.

Not sure where you are coming from or going - but I would try to meet in someplace in Westchester - where some places may have lots big enough for RVs - and then take a straight run on I-87 south into the GWB.

Do NOT try to get on the Saw Mill Parkway, the Cross Westchester Parkway or the Henry Hudson Park - or you may well be stuck under a bridge.

Rethink where you are meeting your friends.You could not have chosen a worse place, especially with RVs. Westchestee or NJ would be much, muxh better. Change your plans!

RV's are not common sights in NYC, let alone the Bronx. The only RV's we usually see are part of a convoy when a TV show or movie is being shot. The Bronx is the poorest urban county in the country, so I suggest, if you park on the street, put up a sign that says "Craft Services" and leave some apples and sandwiches out, so no one will bother your RV.

Meet near 238St. and Broadway. You might be able to park on Broadway along the beginnings of the Van Cortlandt Park, or along the nearby stadium. There is a decent diner at 238 and Broadway, and it might have enough parking too.

I forgot: to get to the George Washington Bridge, take the Major Deegan, about four blocks east of the diner--print out a google map of the area.

I think the operative word is "might" be able to park. Also might not be able to park depending on day of week, time of day and what might be going on in the Park or nearby area. This wold be searching for street parking - and it might take a considerable time.

I don't think you realize how urban most of the Bronx is - the population is about 1.4 million people.

if "you" means me, I do realize how urban. I lived at the edge of Riverdale during my high school years and then my mother moved to the Amalgamated on Van Cortlandt Park South about 20 years later. The point is that the Broadway area near Van Cortlandt might have more parking than anything but the park area near Orchard Beach. The OP could also call the Riverdale Diner to see if they would have parking for their RVs.

No - "you" refers to the OP - who seems to think the Bronx is a town - not an urban county.

Frankly - I would never attempt to park one of those behemoths anyplace in NYC. Parking is too scarce - and businesses won't want these things clogging up their parking lots - taking spaces needed for other customers. (At prime times diner parking lots are often full - and finding a space for one car - never mind two sets of 4 spaces together - could easily be a problem.
