Has anyone camped at Dry Tortugas NP? Just wanted to hear from someone who has actually done it. I've read that there are rats, is this a big problem? Also wanted to know if you can take the sea plane with camping gear, or if we'd have to go on one of the boats. Any info is appreciated!

My friend camped there with his girl friend (she lives in Key West) - and they loved it. Didn't hear about any rat problems but will ask.

Key West Seaplane Adventures is the only company licensed to fly people to this NP for fee,

Camping gear (excluding stoves) would seem to be okay.
Still, I would contact this company to be certain.
Heard back from my friend - via voice mail for now. He/they absolutely loved camping at the Dry Tortugas - and when the last boat leaves - you have it all to yourself with a few other campers. He has traveled quite a bit and says that is his favorite place.
You have to bring everything in with you (and take your trash out) - but he said by the docks (they took the boat) - are carts that you can use to transport your tent, sleeping bags,- cooler (they used one with additional insulation to keep the stuff cold for their three days/two nights) and whatever you need to eat - to the nearby camping area.
Of course, if one is so pre-disposed - a hearty supply of "beverages" is also recommended.
